Amazon.con Inc. (AMZN), Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Alphabet Inc.'s
(GOOG) Google will work together to develop an open standard for
smart home devices, such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri, the
companies said Wednesday.
The companies will be working with The Zigbee Alliance, a
foundation working to develop universal open standards for Internet
of Things products. Members of the Zigbee Alliance's board include
executives from Apple, Amazon, Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), The Kroger
Co. (KR) and IKEA, among others, it said.
The companies said the goal of the project "aims to enable
communication across smart home devices, mobile apps, and cloud
services and to define a specific set of IP-based networking
technologies for device certification."
