Bitcoin Global News
(BGN)
June 15, 2018 -- ADVFN Crypto NewsWire -- As of now, in the
United States and beyond, we have all heard about conspiracy
theorists and news platforms that are really just propaganda
machines for one political party or another.
Eyeo GMBH, the company that
developed the Adblock Plus extension for multiple browsers
including Google Chrome, will be looking to help users detect what
news is real and what isn’t.
In doing this, on the most basic
level, they’ll be using the Blockchain in connection with another
browser extension, which they have already developed for Google
Chrome, called Trusted News.
As of now, the main function of the
extension is to use the Blockchain to predict a news source’s
trustworthiness with options like “trustworthy, unknown, clickbait,
and satire.”
A report by
CoinTelegraph on the subject says that
the conclusion that Trusted News reaches, depends on data that it
draws from several sources like PolitiFact, Snopes, and Wikipedia, which are
all databases of facts in different ways.
Trusted News is also already
working with the existing technology of the MetaCertprotocol, which has already successfully been
using a technological tool called an anti-fraud URL registry to
keep TN’s news database consistently updated.
In the future, both will apparently
depend on the Ethereum blockchain as MetaCert is planning a move
there, which they explain by adding that doing so will easily
facilitate the usage of their own ERC20 token to fuel the
submission and categorization of websites.
In other words, moving to Ethereum
means that their ecosystem keeps running in the easiest possible
way, in theory.
What also seems to be true with
this knowledge in hand, is that Trusted News is actually a news
categorization service, with Metacert acting as its background tech
that keeps it running.
It could be the case that the only
difference between the two is that Trusted News categorizes news in
a narrower way, that’s specific to a political way of
thinking.
With so much controversy
surrounding the last presidential election in the United States, as
well as global elections as a whole, this could be the tool that we
all need to keep sane, especially with allegations akin to the fact
that social media networks like Facebook supported fake news
campaigns.
As Trusted News moves into possible
mainstream adoption, its success will likely depend on public
opinion in its unbiased nature as well as trust in the algorithms
that make its choices. In the meantime, if you’re interested in
protecting your data in a better way, take a look at Metacert and
the existing outside reviews of its tech.
