Public Service Electric and Gas Company, the largest utility in
New Jersey, has restored power to Newark Airport and nearby areas
after equipment failure caused a partial outage, the company said
Monday afternoon.
About 20,000 customers lost power and some flights out of Newark
were canceled following a power failure at the utility's Bayway
Switching Station in Elizabeth, while upgrades were taking place.
The incident took plaice at about 2:30 p.m. EST and power was
restored by 4 p.m.
"Once the outage occurred, the utility isolated the failure and
restored the station through an alternate power feed," PSEG said a
statement. The cause of the failure is under investigation.
Power was also cut to the nearby Anheuser-Busch InBev N.V. (BUD)
plant, the Jersey Gardens Mall, and Tuscan Dairy.
