Higher One and Travelex Announce Houston Community College as First to Deploy Joint Electronic Tuition Payment Solution

Higher One Payments, Inc., a technology and financial services
company focused on the higher education market, and Travelex Global
Business Payments, Inc., the world’s leading non-bank provider of
international payment services, announced today the first
deployment of their joint electronic tuition payment solution with
Houston Community College (HCC) in Houston, Texas. The announcement
was made at the National Association of College and University
Business Officers (NACUBO) Annual Conference, in Tampa,
Florida.
In response to the challenges administrators, international
students and their parents face in making tuition payments at U.S.
colleges and universities, Higher One and Travelex joined to create
an enhancement to the functionality of the CASHNet® ePayment
service to now allow international students to make payments to the
college using their currency of choice. HCC has over 6,000
international students and also partners with colleges overseas.
Recognizing a need, HCC was quick to implement the program on
campus.
“This new service will help international students before they
arrive from their country of origin,” said Nandy Baldonado,
Director of Student Financial Services, Houston Community College.
“Prior to this new partnership with Higher One and Travelex,
students could only make payments after they were enrolled, or once
their visa was approved. There was a lot of traffic in the business
office which will be avoided as students can now pay online.”
“HCC is the first of many colleges who will benefit from the
efficiencies that our partnership with Travelex can bring to their
students,” said Casey McGuane, Chief Service Officer at Higher One.
”We anticipate several other schools who have signed on will soon
be up and running.”
“The process of transferring funds to make a tuition payment can
often times be extremely time consuming and costly, especially with
fluctuating foreign exchange rates,” said Matthew Lewis, Director,
Partnerships and Alliances at Travelex Global Business Payments.
“Higher One and Travelex provide a solution that streamlines the
payment process, is more cost efficient, locks in an exchange rate
that is more competitive than traditional banks, and integrates
with the University’s existing ERP system.”
