Macerich Company Recognized With International MAXI Awards National Shopping Center Owner Receives Honors for Outstanding Marketing and Community Programs SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Macerich Company (NYSE:MAC) was recently recognized among its peers worldwide for outstanding marketing and community relations programs. Macerich and its malls brought home two prestigious 2004 MAXI Awards and nine MAXI Merit Awards from the annual International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) fall conference held in San Antonio, Texas. The MAXI Community Relations Award was presented to Macerich for Celebrity Shoes for Orphans, a traveling shoe exhibit benefiting Buckner Orphan Care International. The unique campaign featured autographed footwear from some of today's favorite celebrities. Hallmark Channel and eBay also promoted the program and shoes were auctioned to raise funds for the charity partner. The Company also received MAXI Merit Awards for It's just a Button Down, White Oxford Shirt campaign in the Consumer/Trade Advertising category as well as for Merchants First, a retailer development program. MAXI Merit Awards were presented to the following Macerich properties: * Southern Hills Mall, Sioux City, Iowa, for the U.S. Postal Service First Day of Issue Event; * Westcor Region Malls, Phoenix, Ariz., for Extra Credit School Challenge; * Westcor Region Malls, Phoenix, Ariz., for Gift Guru; * Northridge Mall, Salinas, Calif., for Consumer or Trade Advertising -- A Reflection of You; * La Encantada, Tucson, Ariz., for One Enchanted Opening; * Fashion Fair Mall, Fresno, Calif., for New Reason to Celebrate; and * Crossroads Mall, Oklahoma City, Okla., for A Brand New Center Court. The ICSC MAXI Awards recognize shopping centers from around the world that have demonstrated excellent marketing programs. Entries are judged on results and impact; creativity; marketing objectives and strategy; implementation; and cost effectiveness. There were 252 finalists for the 2004 competition, selected from among 354 total entries.
