Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications
and information technology company, has been awarded a contract
from Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems to build Ka-band
antennas for three Inmarsat-5 satellites. The new satellite
constellation will be the backbone for a worldwide, wireless
broadband network called Inmarsat Global Xpress™.
The Harris antennas will direct 95 Ka-band beams on the earth,
enabling the constellation of three Inmarsat-5 satellites to
provide high-capacity coverage of the entire globe, and to adapt to
the ever-changing usage patterns over the projected 15-year
operation of the satellites.
The Inmarsat-5 antennas are part of the company's flight-proven
Gimbal Dish Antenna (GDA) systems, which enable beams to be steered
to accommodate changing/increasing user demands. Harris
maintains 100-percent mission success with its GDAs by achieving
performance levels that continually exceed user expectations.
Harris has more than 30 years of experience designing, building
and flying space borne antennas for government and commercial
applications. Products range from unfurlable mesh reflectors
to gimbaled dish antennas to phased array antennas.
