Air Products & Chemicals plans to build a carbon capture and carbon dioxide treatment facility at its existing hydrogen production plant in the Netherlands.

The Allentown, Pa.-based provider of essential industrial gases and chemicals said Monday that the facility is expected to be on-stream in 2026 and will produce blue hydrogen, which is made from natural gas and supported by carbon capture and storage.

Once operational, the facility will be the largest blue hydrogen plant in Europe, Air Products said.

The blue hydrogen product will serve ExxonMobil's Rotterdam refinery and additional customers in Air Products' hydrogen pipeline network system.

The project is part of long-term agreements with ExxonMobil and the Dutch State, the company said.
