Wide Greater Than 720 MHz Bandwidth Exceeds 3rd Order Harmonic for
Virtually Transparent Switching; MicroPak Package Reduces Footprint
by 68% Compared to Closest Competitor Fairchild Semiconductor's
(NYSE:FCS) FSUSB23 is the smallest single-port USB 2.0 "Hi-Speed"
(480 Mbps) analog switch in a MicroPak(TM) chip scale package
(CSP). Its compact packaging, combined with very low power
consumption (less than 1micro amp) and wide bandwidth (greater than
720 MHz) operation, make it an ideal high-performance, space-saving
USB 2.0 switch for today's multi-functional cell phones.
Fairchild's 1.6 mm x 2.1 mm MicroPak 10-terminal chip scale package
delivers a 68% footprint reduction compared to typical competitive
switches (3.36 mm2 vs. 10.5 mm2). Additional applications for the
FSUSB23 include PDAs, MP3 players, digital cameras and laptops. The
FSUSB23's ability to switch Hi-Speed USB signals allows it to
comfortably pass the eye diagram compliance for AC and DC
performance to meet the USB 2.0 high-speed standard. It also
retains complete USB 1.1 full-speed (12 Mbps) reverse compatibility
for use in a range of applications. "Signal integrity and low power
consumption are especially critical considerations in cell phone
applications," said Jerry Johnston, Fairchild product manager for
Analog Switches. "The FSUSB23's wide bandwidth meets these concerns
by easily passing 3rd order harmonic frequencies with virtually
undetectable levels of distortion and jitter. Additionally, the
convergence of more features and connectivity into increasingly
smaller ultra-portables is driving the demand for Hi-Speed USB
switches in the smallest available packages. The combined
performance attributes and ultra-compact packaging of the FSUSB23
offer designers the flexibility they need to solve their design
challenges." Other key design features of the FSUSB23 include: --
Higher 7 kV Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) vs. typical 2 kV ESD in
competing components provides greater application robustness; -- 6
Ohms typical On Resistance (RON) improves noise margin; --
Non-adjacent channel crosstalk (-43dB at 250 Mhz) minimizes signal
interference; and -- Choice of 16-terminal DQFN package offers
better suitability for notebooks and other larger portable
applications. The FSUSB23 complements Fairchild's expanding line of
high-performance USB switch solutions providing the industry's best
combination of wide bandwidth, high signal quality and compact
packaging. Other USB-compliant products include the FSUSB22, a
low-power two-port analog switch also for Hi-Speed USB compliance,
and the FSUSB11, a low-power, single-port full-speed USB switch.
The lead (Pb)-free FSUSB23 meets or exceeds the requirements of the
joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and is compliant with European
Union requirements. -0- *T Price: $0.97 each (1000 pcs) for either
