The Higher Current FPF21XX Family Extends Fairchild's IntelliMAX Portfolio to Solve an Array of Power Management Challenges in Portable Battery-Powered Applications Fairchild Semiconductor's (NYSE:FCS) eleven new IntelliMAX(TM) high-current (up to 400 mA), low loss (typical RDS(ON) = 0.120 ohms) load switches reduce design cycle times and costs for the latest generation of battery-powered portable applications. The extensive IntelliMAX load management portfolio ensures a high degree of flexibility by addressing various system architectures to simplify designs. Each FPF21XX device integrates more protection, control and fault-monitoring features into the smallest package (SOT-23) than competitive 200/400 mA products. This comprehensive feature-set includes: -- Controlled switch turn-on reduces in-rush current and supply transients; -- Current-limiting with device options (200 mA, 400 mA); -- Under-voltage lockout; -- Thermal shutdown to reduce excessive heating or system damage; -- Hard/short protection with fast response time (20 nanoseconds) for hard short conditions; -- Fast current-limit response time (3 microseconds) for nominal over-current conditions; -- Flag for fault conditions with options for fault blanking, auto-restart functions; and -- Options for reverse-current blocking capability. The optional reverse-current blocking feature offered by the FPF2108/09/10 devices ensures uni-directional current flow--a key benefit for systems connected directly to a battery or DC power source where current must only flow in one direction. In addition, all FPF21XX devices provide a low (Less than 1 microampere) shutdown current to conserve battery life. Power and space issues are major challenges facing designers of ultra-portable applications, including full-featured smart phones, high-capacity storage MP3 players, next-generation digital still cameras and notebook computers. Operating over a wide input voltage range of 1.8-5.5 V, the FPF21XX devices optimize system power usage, thereby maximizing battery life. This extended operating range also makes them well suited for low-voltage industrial, telecom and medical equipment. In addition to power-saving benefits, Fairchild's integrated IntelliMAX advanced load management devices offer designers significant space- and cost-savings. Compared to traditional discrete solutions using ICs and multiple active and passive components, the compact IntelliMAX load switches achieve a high degree of functionality in less space. This integration saves valuable circuit board area, decreasing time-to-market and ultimately saving bill-of-material costs. "Our latest series of 5 V, high-current FPF21XX IntelliMAX products offer designers an off-the-shelf solution to solve a variety of power management issues," said Chris Winkler, Fairchild's market development manager for portable products applications. "As the industry continues to rapidly migrate to portable battery power, Fairchild remains committed to offering designers a complete portfolio of load management solutions reducing design complexity and design cycle times, while simultaneously reducing component count to save board space." A variety of complementary products are offered by Fairchild to fulfill the challenges presented by today's ultra-portable designs. In addition to IntelliMAX devices, for example, Fairchild's LED drivers, switching regulators, LDOs and RF power amplifiers are designed to optimize power efficiency. Fairchild also offers products that tackle the demands imposed by the continuing convergence of enhanced functionality, including micro-SerDes(TM) (Note), USB transceivers, analog switches and logic-level translators. The need for miniaturization, both in size and weight, is another concern confronting designers of ultra-portable applications. Fairchild offers innovative DQFN, MicroPak(TM), FLMP and BGA packaging to meet this design challenge. The IntelliMAX FPF21XX devices are available in a small-footprint, low-profile SOT-23 package. These products are lead-free (Pb-free) and meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and are compliant with the European Union requirements now in effect. -0- *T Part Function Minimum Current Auto- ON Pin Top Price Samples Number Current Limit restart State Mark USD$ Limit Blanking Time (1K (mA) Time (ms) Pcs.)
