Business Wire
CalAmp Corp. (Nasdaq: CAMP), a leading provider of wireless
products, services and solutions, today announced that its Public
Safety Mobile Group has installed its latest generation mobile data
network for the City and County of Denver, Colorado. The new
network is now operational and being deployed in time to support
public safety personnel and resources that will be mobilized for
the Democratic National Convention (DNC) that is being held August
25 to 28, 2008 in Denver. As previously announced, CalAmp was
awarded this $2.3 million contract in March 2008. The CalAmp
Dataradio network consists of an open-architecture IP-based network
infrastructure, IP-based Paragon3 full-duplex base stations, and
technologically advancedIP-based G3 Agile Dual-Band (G3 ADB)
800/700 MHz mobile modem platforms with integrated GPS tracking.
The system will operate at speeds up to 64 Kbps, and is capable of
beingupgraded to support higher speeds in the future.
Additionally, it will beaugmented by a limited number of Tropos
Networks broadband access points, which are being integrated by
CalAmp as part of a multi-network wireless IP-based system
solution. Integration of the Dataradiomulti-network mobile data
solution has progressed smoothly and rapidly, and is expected to
enable substantial use of the system in support of public safety
personnel and resources during the DNC, stated Gary Sonnier, Vice
President and General Manager of CalAmps Public Safety Mobile
Group. We are proud of the joint team effort between CalAmp and
our colleagues at the City and County of Denver to expedite the
successful deployment of this network to help handle Denvers
upcoming public safety requirements. This new generation network
provides highly reliable wireless connectivity and allows
dispatchers and public safety personnel to communicate and relay
data information securely, efficiently and accurately throughout
the coverage area. Publicsafety management and field personnel can
utilize the system to access information from federal, state and
local remote databases autonomously without the need for a
dispatcher or other back-office support. This will provide for
increased efficiency and enhanced capabilities for public safety
field personnel. The system has been designed tosupport the
initial deployment of five-hundred (500) G3 ADB mobile modems with
integrated GPS tracking, and also allows for easy system expansion
to meetfuture needs. About CalAmp Corp. CalAmp provides wireless
