UBS AG has hired Michael Santini away from Deutsche Bank AG,
just weeks after the German bank promoted him.
In his new role, which he will begin in early 2017, Mr. Santini
will be executive vice chairman in UBS's investment bank, according
to an internal memo sent Tuesday and viewed by The Wall Street
Journal. He will report to UBS's investment-banking chief, Andrea
Orcel.
Mr. Santini, who previously co-headed Deutsche Bank's industrial
investment-banking group, was earlier this month elevated to vice
chairman of Americas corporate finance at the German bank.
At UBS, Mr. Santini will be responsible for developing the Swiss
bank's client relationships, focusing on companies and
private-equity firms globally. Mr. Santini will also become a
member of UBS's Americas executive committee, according to the
memo.
Mr. Santini started at Deutsche Bank in 2009 and has worked to
build the bank's industrial group. While at Deutsche Bank, he
advised clients such as General Electric Co., Colfax Corp., Danaher
Corp. and Marriott International Inc. on a number of transactions.
Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Mr. Santini spent 15 years at what
is now Bank of America Corp. and eventually co-headed the
investment bank's multi-industry group in the Americas.
Mr. Santini is the latest UBS investment-bank hire in the U.S.
In October, UBS announced that Bob Foresman would join as vice
chairman.
UBS currently has a role in British American Tobacco PLC's
proposed $47 billion tie up with Reynolds American Inc. The bank
also advised Jarden Corp. on its nearly $15 billion sale to Newell
Brands Inc.
