Item 5.02	Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.

On August 17, 2016, the Compensation Committee of Markel Corporation approved base salary increases for the following executive officers of the company: Thomas S. Gayner, Co-Chief Executive Officer; Richard R. Whitt, III, Co-Chief Executive Officer; and F. Michael Crowley, President.

The table below sets forth the new base salaries for each of these executive officers, which will go into effect on September 5, 2016.
