Bitwise Asset Management's Bradley Duke still bullish on Bitcoin despite tariff turmoil

Bitwise Asset Management European Head Bradley Duke talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about Bitcoin's resilience amid market volatility and the macroeconomic factors that continue to provide a bullish backdrop for the cryptocurrency. Speaking from Paris Blockchain Week, Duke noted that despite Bitcoin falling from its early-year highs of nearly $110,000 to around $83,000, market conditions remain supportive. He pointed to expectations of inflation, potential global rate cuts, and an expanding money supply as strong tailwinds. “The setup is very bullish at the moment,” he said, noting that supply-side constraints could accelerate any price recovery. Duke also highlighted growing interest from sovereign and corporate investors. He cited discussions in countries like Sweden, France, and Japan around holding Bitcoin as a strategic reserve, alongside listed companies and smaller private firms adding Bitcoin to their treasuries. “Currently, the corporate demand for Bitcoin is outstripping the supply by more than two times,” Duke explained. He concluded by noting the historically low exchange balances of Bitcoin, signalling a lack of sellers. “My feeling is that when it does start to move back up again, it's going to jump up because there simply aren't any sellers,” he added. VettaFi Head of Energy Research Stacey Morris joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the performance and positioning of the Alerian Midstream Energy Dividend ETF, and to provide a broader outlook on the midstream energy sector in the context of today’s evolving market dynamics. Morris began by explaining the role of the midstream segment within the energy value chain, describing it as the “shipping and handling service” of the industry. Unlike upstream producers that are heavily exposed to commodity price fluctuations, midstream companies are focused on transporting, storing, and processing oil and natural gas—services that are typically governed by long-term, fee-based contracts. This structural model, she emphasized, gives midstream operators stable, predictable cash flows, making them more resilient in volatile or declining energy price environments. The conversation turned to recent weakness in oil markets, with U.S. oil benchmarks falling roughly 17% between April 2 and April 8, 2025. Morris attributed the drop primarily to increased supply from OPEC+ nations and mounting concerns over global economic growth and trade activity. “There’s just been a number of concerns around the outlook for the global economy or trade,” she noted, which has added pressure to oil prices in the short term. However, Morris pointed out that midstream energy assets tend to outperform in such environments. Their reduced sensitivity to commodity pricing and defensive investment characteristics—especially consistent dividend payouts—make them an appealing option for income-focused and risk-averse investors. One of the most compelling parts of the midstream growth story, Morris said, is its exposure to natural gas, which continues to see rising demand from multiple sectors. Anson Resources reaches key milestone with Lithium polishing phase at Green River Project

Anson Resources CEO Bruce Richardson joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce a major advancement in the company’s lithium production pathway. The company has officially commenced the “polishing” phase of its high-purity lithium chloride (LiCl) eluate at the Green River Lithium Project in Utah, marking a pivotal step toward battery-grade lithium carbonate production. This phase is being carried out using Koch Technology Solutions’ (KTS) advanced Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) pilot plant. The polishing process, a critical initial step in downstream refinement, is designed to remove trace contaminants that may remain after the DLE stage. The resulting ultra-pure LiCl solution will then be processed through evaporation and carbonation to yield battery-grade lithium carbonate. Richardson explained that after DLE, the LiCl solution undergoes further purification using advanced separation technologies including nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. These techniques are essential to achieving the high purity required for lithium-ion battery applications. Initial batches of the polished LiCl are expected to be completed in the coming weeks. Once complete, the solution will proceed through the final stages of processing, culminating in the production of high-purity lithium carbonate. Richardson also noted the enhanced performance of the DLE process with KTS technology, reporting a lithium recovery rate of approximately 98% and an impurity rejection rate of 99%. These figures represent a significant improvement over previous results, supporting the efficient, cost-effective production of battery-grade materials.
