“Our corporate responsibility centers on people, the places we live and the planet we all share,” said Byron Jobe, chief executive officer for Vizient. “That means looking for ways to improve our organization and partnering with healthcare providers and suppliers to advance health equity, improve community prosperity and resilience while also supporting the decarbonization goals of the healthcare industry.”

Notable accomplishments across the people, places and planet pillars in this year’s report include:

  • Co-launching the Collective Healthcare Action to Reduce MedTech Emissions (CHARME) with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions related to the U.S. medical device and equipment supply chain.
  • Co-developing the new United Nations Global Framework on Chemicals, as well as helping to establish the first global sustainability standard for medical imaging equipment.
  • Enabling public access to the Vizient Vulnerability IndexTM, the only social needs index to identify specific factors of health inequity at a hyperlocal census tract level, which generated more than 550 downloads by providers, those working in government, healthcare suppliers and nonprofit organizations.
  • Enabling $1.6 million in local spend with certified minority suppliers through our provider Community Contracting program.
  • Hosting a workshop series attended by 388 provider organizations on health equity data collection, verification, and management. Participants experienced a reduction in 30-day patient readmissions, avoiding an annualized 569 readmissions, which translated to $8.6 million in annual savings.
  • Utilizing our Novaplus Enhanced Supply program to bring an additional 2.2 million units of essential medications to providers for patient care during episodes of drug shortage.
  • Including chemicals of concern in our supplier RFPs (requests for proposals) as part of the national bid process. In 2023, 91% of suppliers reported on chemicals making Vizient’s portfolio the largest repository of chemically transparent products in the healthcare industry.
  • Diversifying our leadership by increasing the proportion of women in leadership roles to 45.8%, people of color in leadership to 15.6% and earning the Equality 100 Award from the Human Rights Campaign for LGBTQ+ inclusion.
  • Celebrating the 20th anniversary of our annual “Community Day” with 2,310 employees volunteering a total of 12,334 hours with 105 nonprofits across 193 communities around the country and investing $1.2 million across 79 communities through strategic grantmaking.
