Sterling to Rise if BOE Officials Signal Larger Rate Hike
0844 GMT - Sterling could gain if Bank of England officials
indicate that interest rates could rise more aggressively in
speeches this week, Ebury says. "Any indication that policymakers
are erring towards raising rates by 50 basis points at the next
[Monetary Policy Committee] meeting in August would be positive for
the pound and may trigger a recovery rally from currently
suppressed levels," Ebury's Matthew Ryan says. BOE Governor Andrew
Bailey and BOE member Silvana Tenreyro speak Tuesday at 1000 GMT
and 1630 GMT respectively, while BOE Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe
and BOE chief economist Huw Pill speak Wednesday followed by BOE
official Catherine Mann Thursday. GBP/USD drops 0.3% to 1.2065 but
EUR/GBP falls 0.3% to 0.8580. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
