CUMBERLAND, Maine, May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Summit Natural Gas of Maine has officially begun a major infrastructure project that will provide natural gas service to the towns of Cumberland, Falmouth and Yarmouth. The announcement was made today at an official groundbreaking ceremony at the Cumberland Fairgrounds. The event marked the location of the start of construction to install 66 miles of natural gas pipelines in the communities. The company plans to serve its first customers in the area as early as this year.

The major contractors for the project will be Bond Brothers Inc., Cianbro, Priority Utility Construction and Shaw Brothers Construction Inc.

Summit Natural Gas of Maine will make an investment in the three towns of approximately $42 million creating an estimated 200 jobs, and plans to serve about 8,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in the three towns over the next five years.
