Wells Fargo Contributes $1.4 Million for Tsunami Disaster Relief SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wells Fargo said today that the company and its team members nationwide have contributed a total of $1.4 million to relief organizations aiding victims affected by last month's tsunamis. With more than 4,500 of Wells Fargo's 149,500 team members contributing $664,000 in just three weeks, the company completed its $500,000 matching program, and matched $164,000 in additional contributions that were received last week after team-members exceeded the initial match. With the company's previously announced contribution of $100,000 to the American Red Cross, this brings Wells Fargo's and the matched contributions to over $1.4 million. "I want to sincerely thank all our team members for their incredible generosity and for caring so much for the hundreds of thousands of victims who continue to face incredible hardship," said Wells Fargo's chairman and CEO Dick Kovacevich. "We hope our efforts will help ease that burden. While our matching program has officially come to a close, we are urging all of our team members to keep supporting non-profits who are doing important work overseas, as well as neighbors who are close to home -- local non-profits in the communities where we live and work." In addition to the $1.4 million contribution, Wells Fargo, with ICICI Bank, has been waiving all remittance transfer fees ($8 per transaction) and foreign currency fees through the end of next month for U.S. customers sending money to friends and family in India affected by the natural disaster.
