SOLAR INTEGRATED ANNOUNCES THREE U.S. SOLAR ROOFING PROJECTS WITH JOHNSON CONTROLS FOR US$3 MILLION
Los Angeles, California and London, UK, September 17, 2008 - Solar Integrated Technologies, Inc. (AIM:SIT.LN), a leading provider of
building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) roofing systems, today announces that it has been awarded contracts from Johnson Controls, the
global multi-industrial leader in creating smart environments, to supply and install BIPV roofing systems on projects in Wisconsin,
California and Washington. The three contracts total U.S.$3 million and are expected to be completed by the end of 2008.
"Our strategy is to provide value to our customers across their portfolio of solar roofing opportunities. We provide solar roofing
solutions that address the technical and levelized cost of energy requirements for the specific building and site profile," stated R.
Randall MacEwen, President & CEO of Solar Integrated. "Our strategy is designed to make us an attractive long-term partner for leading
companies like Johnson Controls - a company that makes buildings in 125 countries more comfortable, productive, safe and energy efficient."
One of the three projects is the Johnson Controls global headquarters building in Glendale, Wisconsin. The BIPV roofing project at this
facility is expected to produce 116,000 kWh annually. This is enough energy to supply 140 average sized homes and eliminate the emissions
from 300 cars over the lifetime of the system. The headquarters received the highest ranking from the U.S. Green Building Council's
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
The Solar Integrated solar roofing system integrates a durable, low maintenance, waterproof membrane with lightweight, thin-film
photovoltaic cells and provides 3 points toward the LEED Platinum Certified green building. The BIPV roofing system uses clean, renewable
energy to generate electricity for buildings while helping lower overall energy costs and offsetting coal producing power.
This usage underscores national trends identified by Johnson Controls earlier this year. According to The Johnson Controls Energy
Efficiency Indicator, the company's annual survey of North American executives, 52 percent of respondents said environmental responsibility
is an equal or greater motivator for investing in energy efficiency than cost reduction. Sixteen percent cited environmental responsibility
as the stronger motivator, up from 13 percent in 2007. Thirty-six percent said they were equally motivated by environmental responsibility
and cost savings.
"Johnson Controls is known for helping customers develop smart, sustainable environments. This offering is a part of our ongoing
strategy to deepen and broaden the company's leadership in renewable energy solutions," said Don Albinger, Vice President of Renewable
Solutions at Johnson Controls. "From school districts to municipalities to corporations, renewable energy is relevant to all industries."
Johnson Controls helps organizations reach sustainability goals by incorporating renewable technologies with innovative energy
efficiency strategies to provide long-term, sustainable solutions.
Solar Integrated's BIPV products feature UNI-SOLAR photovoltaic laminates. UNI-SOLAR laminates offer superior cost-effective solutions
for roofing applications because they are lightweight, durable, flexible, can be integrated directly with building materials, and generate
more energy in real world conditions. The laminates are supplied by United Solar Ovonic LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Conversion
Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:ENER).
