PETERHEAD GROUP PLC

As previously announced on 19 December 1997, Peterhead Group plc ("the
Company") has been pursuing negotiations with a view to restructuring its
debt.  This has involved discussions with its principal bankers and other
financial institutions.  To date, the Company has been unable to conclude an
agreement from these negotiations.

The Board is urgently seeking resolution of this situation and is continuing
discussions with its principal bankers and other parties.  In addition, the
Company has received a conditional offer for part of the Company's business
and the Board is considering pursuing negotiations with this interested party,
as well as contacting a number of other potential purchasers who have
expressed interest in the past in acquiring parts of the Company's business.

In view of the above, Peterhead has been granted a suspension in trading in
its shares on both the Irish and London Stock Exchanges pending clarification
of these matters.  The Company will keep shareholders informed through further
announcements in due course.
