                                 Result of EGM
                                 Change of name

The Board of Plantation & General Investments Plc (the 'Company') announces
that, at the extraordinary general meeting  of the Company which took place
earlier today, each of the resolutions put to shareholders of the Company (being
those  which were set out in the notice of extraordinary general meeting
included in the Company's prospectus dated 18 April  2005) was duly passed with
the requisite majority.

Accordingly, Provisional Allotment Letters in respect of the Rights Issue will
be posted today to Qualifying non-CREST  Holders, and Qualifying CREST Holders
will have their stock accounts credited tomorrow with New Ordinary Shares, nil 
paid. Dealings in the New Ordinary Shares, nil paid, are expected to commence at
8:00 a.m. tomorrow, 12 May 2005.

The latest time and date for acceptance, payment in full and registration of
renunciation of Provisional Allotment  Letters is 11:00 a.m. on 2 June 2005. The
latest time and date for splitting of Provisional Allotment Letters is 3:00 
p.m. on 31 May 2005.

In addition, pursuant to a resolution passed at the extraordinary general
meeting, the name of the Company has been  changed with effect from today from
Plantation & General Investments Plc to PGI Group Plc.
