NORWICH UNION'S SALE OF MARITIME COMPLETE

The sale of Norwich Union's wholly owned subsidiary, Maritime Insurance
Company Limited to Chicago-based CNA Financial Corporation, through its
wholly-owned subsidiary CNA Holdings (UK) Limited, announced on 7 April 1998,
was completed on 30 June 1998.  Maritime is a specialist insurer writing
marine business predominantly in the UK.
