Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. (6302.TO) Friday said it has entered exclusive talks to buy a stake in Belgium-based industrial gearbox maker Hansen Industrial Transmissions NV.

The Japanese heavy machinery maker said it is talking with parent company Hansen Transmissions International NV (HSN.LN). Assuming they sign a share buy pact, Sumitomo will disclose details around January 2011.
