Amiad secures project for wastewater treatment in Brazil
Facility will save approx. 1,000 litres of clean drinking water
per second
Amiad, the producer and global supplier of water filters and
filtration systems for the industrial, municipal and irrigation
markets, is pleased to announce that it will provide its
proprietary SpinKlin Disc Filters, part of the Arkal family of
products, for the Aquapolo tertiary wastewater treatment project in
Sao Paulo, Brazil. The facility will treat secondary effluent from
a local sewage plant to supply water for industrial use at the
Capuave Petrochemical Complex.
Under the aegis of Foz do Brasil, an environmental engineering
company, and SABESP, the Sao Paulo State sanitation company, the
Aquapolo plant will be the largest of its kind in the Southern
Hemisphere and the fifth-largest in the world. The SpinKlin Disc
Filters, part of the Arkal family of products, will form a key
component in the pre-treatment filtration process and will be used
to protect the plant's ultrafiltration membranes: the water will
first be filtered by the SpinKlin Discs, which are designed to
retain solids with a diameter larger than 400 microns, before being
biologically treated and passing through the ultrafiltration
membrane modules.
The Company's technology will be used to recycle and clean
secondary effluent to provide water for the petrochemical plant.
This will replace the current practice of using drinking water for
industrial purposes, which will increase the supply of potable
water for the local community and improve public health in a region
that is one of the driest in Brazil. In addition, it will help
prevent pollution as sewage will be treated and reused rather than
released into the Tamanduatei River.
Arik Dayan, Chief Executive Officer of Amiad, said: "We are
delighted to be part of this project that will reduce the use of
drinking water for industrial purposes and hence increase the
supply of clean water for the local community. This demonstrates
the benefits of our technology in geographies such as Brazil and
South America that suffer from a lack of this crucial resource.
This project also testifies to the value of the addition of the
Arkal product range, which allows us to increase our presence in
this key market, and highlights the importance of Amiad's solutions
within the filtration process - forming part of our goal to be at
the core of any water system throughout the world."
