Perstorp Formox to build new plant for Euroresinas/Sonae

Perstorp Formox, the Swedish-based leader in formaldehyde technology, will build
a new formaldehyde and resin plant for Euroresinas Industrias Quimicas S.A., a
member of the Portuguese Sonae Group.

The plant will be constructed at a new industrial site in Sines, south of
Lisbon, and will supply Euroresinas with 180,000 tpa of 37% formaldehyde. The
formaldehyde will be converted into resin to meet the Sonae Group's demands for
glue for panel production. The new plant is expected to go on stream during the
latter half of 2000. Perstorp Formox delivered another formaldehyde plant to
the Sonae Group in 1982.

"Perstorp probably knows formaldehyde better than anyone else in the world,"
comments Mr Francisco Salgado, Director at Euroresinas. "Our experience ever
since '82 has shown that they not only deliver a reliable plant, but they follow
it up, year after year, assuring the optimum production, economy and safety.
And they're very environmentally conscious, which is becoming more and more
important throughout the EU and elsewhere."

The Sonae Group was founded in 1959 as a producer of high-pressure laminate.
Expanding into board and wood products through a series of acquisitions, both in
Portugal and abroad, the Group is today the largest board producer in the world.

The formaldehyde plant supplied to Euroresinas is one of more than 35 built by
Perstorp Formox in the last 10 years alone. "The Euroresinas plant is in fact,
one of five new plant orders we have received in the past four months," notes Mr
Claes Lundstrom, General Manager of Perstorp Formox. These five plants are
designated for customers in Europe and Asia and represent a combined value of
US$25 million.

Perstorp Formox belongs to Perstorp Chemicals, a member of the Perstorp Group,
which specializes in selected areas of chemistry, surface materials and plastics
technology. Some 80 plants of various sizes all over the world use the Perstorp
Formox formaldehyde process, with a combined output accounting for more than 20%
of the total global consumption. Perstorp Formox is also the world leader in
the catalysts used in this type of formaldehyde process. This technology is
currently being expanded to include environmental catalysts, e.g. for use in the
abatement of industrial emissions.
