TikTok, a unit of Beijing-based ByteDance Ltd., said Friday that
100% of its U.S. user traffic is being routed to Oracle Corp.'s
cloud infrastructure.
The social media platform said it still uses data centers in the
U.S. and Singapore for backup, but that it expects to delete U.S.
users' private data from its own data centers and fully pivot to
Oracle's cloud servers located in the U.S.
TikTok said it has worked with business-software giant Oracle on
measures as part of its commercial relationship to safeguard U.S.
user data for more than a year. It also said it is working with
Oracle to develop data management protocols that Oracle will audit
and manage.
TikTok said the changes, including a new, recently established
department that solely manages U.S. user data, is part of its focus
on preserving an interconnected experience for its community while
building a security-first culture.
