Dow Jones News
(Adds company comment)
-- A New York jury said Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) must pay $25
million to a woman who claims she got cancer by using the company's
products, Bloomberg reports Tuesday.
-- The woman alleged she got a rare type of cancer, linked to
asbestos, from some of the company's products which contain talc,
the report said.
-- The $25 million is for compensatory damages, and the jury
will reconvene next week to consider a punitive penalty, the report
said.
-- Johnson & Johnson has denied all allegations that its
baby powder contained asbestos.
-- Johnson & Johnson said "This trial suffered significant
legal and evidentiary errors," adding it had moved for a mistrial.
The company also said "we believe these errors will warrant a
reversal on appeal."
