/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway today announced two new Media
Center PCs for direct sale: the Gateway(R) 3250X Media Center PC
and the Gateway 7200S Media Center PC. (Logo:
http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20020930/LAM050LOGO) Both new
desktop PCs utilize Microsoft's new Windows XP Media Center Edition
2005 operating system (OS) and are ready to provide all the
benefits of a fully equipped Media Center PC. A built-in TV tuner
comes standard on the 7200S Media Center PC and is available as an
option on the 3250X Media Center PC, so both of them can be used as
a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and FM radio. Providing further
entertainment, the new PCs can also be used to record CDs or DVDs
as well as to enjoy music and movies. The new Media Center PCs can
be customized, so Gateway customers can choose the features that
best fit their needs. Each of the new PCs may be customized with
select components, including processors, displays, memory, hard
drives, optical drives, speakers, audio cards, graphics cards,
memory card readers, keyboards and application software. Priced at
only $799.99, the Gateway 3250X Media Center PC is a low-priced,
feature rich Media Center PC. It delivers a new level of value to
families and students who need to stick to a budget, yet also want
to experience the benefits that Microsoft Windows XP Media Center
Edition 2005 software has to offer. The PC is a great value, since
it's offered at a price that's comparable to similarly configured
PCs without the Media Center software. The Gateway 7200S Media
Center PC is a high-end system that delivers the ultimate in
performance for entertainment and digital media. Comparable to
other PCs priced close to $2,000, the Gateway 7200S Media Center is
a great value at just $1,399.99, including a vibrant 17-inch LCD
flat panel display. Also, the system is based on Gateway's new
patent-pending PC design and Intel's BTX architecture, so it
provides superior cooling, noise reduction benefits and improved
reliability. Gateway leads the market in BTX-based quiet and cool
PCs; the company has introduced multiple BTX systems since it came
to market with its first system in August. "Our new Media Center
PCs are perfect for people who are ready to embrace more
entertainment and digital media applications -- and our multiple
offerings and ability to customize take into consideration the
different needs of our customers," said Ed Fisher, Gateway's senior
vice president of product planning. "Our new BTX-based PC is a
great fit with the Media Center software; the system is so quiet
that it's barely audible in a home environment, yet it's powerful
enough to handle demanding tasks. Also, the fact that we're
delivering our 3250X Media Center PC at the low price of $799 is
sure to inspire even more consumers to take on more digital hobbies
and have more fun with their PC." Full-Featured Media Center PC
Sports Quiet and Cool Design The Gateway 7200S Media Center PC
embraces the latest technology for entertainment, including
Gateway's unique patent-pending chassis design that can handle
extra heat generated from high-speed processors, graphics cards,
add-in cards and hard drives. Unlike anything from other major
manufacturers, the PC's design is based on Intel's BTX
architecture; it houses an efficient cooling system that has a
central wind tunnel to cool internal components. The cooling system
also boosts overall reliability since it reduces failures due to
overheating. In addition to being cool, the new Gateway 7200S Media
Center PC is also very quiet. It utilizes large fans that spin at
40 percent slower speeds than ones found in other PCs, so it
operates at a mere whisper, making it ideal for any room in the
home such as the den, office, family room or bedroom. The quiet
operation will please customers who use the PC to watch live or
prerecorded TV, listen to music, or watch movies. The new PC is
fully equipped to handle the most demanding applications, such as
gaming, editing digital media or running demanding applications.
The new PC includes a fast Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 540 (3.20GHz)
processor with Hyper Threading (HT) Technology(1), which helps
users enjoy multiple entertainment and computing functions at the
same time. For example, PC users can download digital music while
watching live TV, or edit digital video while listening to FM
radio. Also, dedicated ATI RADEON X300SE PCI-Express 128MB DDR
memory graphics card supports the hottest game titles, while taking
advantage of PCI Express technology for improved graphics playback.
Taking advantage of Microsoft's new Windows XP Media Center Edition
2005 operating system software, the Gateway 7200S incorporates the
latest technology for entertainment. The built-in TV/FM tuner lets
consumers enjoy television programs and FM radio. Personal Video
Recorder (PVR) capability gives customers full control over TV
programs, allowing them to record, pause and rewind shows and
sporting events. FM radio can also be paused and rewound. All of
this can be done with the PC's easy-to-use remote control that
comes standard with the PC, and the system's crisp 17-inch flat
panel display. The PC's 8X DVD+/-RW multi-format drive allows
consumers to easily burn digital video and photos onto DVD media
that can be viewed in home DVD players. Also, the drive uses new
double-layer DVD technology to give PC users twice the space for
their digital video -- up to 8.5GB of data on double-layer DVD
media. It also includes a huge 250GB 7200RPM Serial ATA hard
drive,(2) DVD-ROM drive and an 8-in-1 digital media reader, which
accepts the most popular media cards used in digital devices such
as digital cameras and camcorders. The suggested configuration of
the Gateway 7200S Media Center PC features other great technology
that contributes to the system's high performance, including 512MB
of DDR dual channel memory that can be expanded to 4GB, as well as
Gigabit (10/100/1000) Ethernet. Of course, the PC can be customized
to fit customer needs. Lots of Entertainment Extras at an
Especially Low Price Going well below the prices of most other
Media Center PCs, the Gateway 3250X Media Center PC includes all
the great technology needed to enjoy entertainment and digital
media via Windows XP Media Center's easy-to-navigate interface.
Unlike the other value-priced Media Center PCs available, the
Gateway 3250X Media Center PC includes technology that makes a
dramatic impact on the overall performance of the system. The
system boasts an Intel Pentium 4 515 (2.93GHz) processor supported
by the Intel 915GV chipset and 512MB of DDR SDRAM. Ready to access
and store hefty multimedia files, the PC comes with a large 160GB
hard drive(2), a 48x CD-RW and an 8-in-1 digital media reader. Like
the 7200S Media Center PC, the 3250X Media Center PC comes with a
wireless remote control that gives consumers easy access to their
digital content, whether they're viewing a photo slideshow, sharing
a home movie or listening to a collection of MP3 music. Also, for
only $100 more, the 3250X Media Center PC comes with a built-in TV
/ FM tuner, adding in the benefits of watching and recording TV, as
well as listening to FM radio. For a visually striking experience,
the Gateway 3250X Media Center PC comes with a flat 15-inch LCD.
The system is network- and broadband-ready with an integrated
10/100 Ethernet and 56K data fax modem. Customers can build on the
solid foundation of the Gateway 3250X Media Center PC to add other
features, since it can be customized with various options for
displays, optical drives, hard drives, memory and other features.
