Churchill Downs Incorporated Picks a Winner - Major Racetrack
Company Goes With Gateway for a Complete Enterprise Technology
Makeover Owner and Operator of the Kentucky Derby Deploys Gateway
in Corporate Headquarters and Racetrack Venues IRVINE, Calif., May
4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway, Inc. today announced that it
will be the exclusive provider of front- and back-end technology
improvements to world-renowned horse racing venue operator
Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI). The three-year deal brings
Gateway server, notebook and desktop platforms to CDI's recently
renovated Churchill Downs racetrack as well as Fair Grounds Race
Course in New Orleans, the company's most recent acquisition. The
newly designed infrastructure compliments CDI's Customer
Relationship Management (CRM) initiative and is a large component
of bringing a dynamic racing experience to patrons for the upcoming
131st running of the Kentucky Derby on May 7. "We redesigned our
facilities to give our customers a lasting and first-class user
experience," said Atique Shah, CDI's vice president of CRM and
technology solutions. "Gateway's ability to provide flexible,
scalable and robust computing platforms -- combined with its
willingness to be flexible in meeting our unique IT needs -- made
Gateway the ideal partner." CDI required complete front- and
back-end restructuring to enhance its customers' on-track
experience. To meet these demands, Gateway developed a complete
end-to-end solution employing servers, desktops and notebooks
throughout the organization. The result provides the company with
support for infrastructure management and broader networking
capabilities, along with a complete technology facelift. Racetrack
visitors will benefit from new display technology to watch races,
track bets and view statistics on horses as well as their jockeys.
Gateway-powered kiosks have been placed throughout the venues to
expedite and monitor wagering. Patrons that can't visit the tracks
will benefit from the redesigned http://www.churchilldowns.com/ Web
site, creating a more user-friendly experience, including access to
multimedia content and other event information. "A company in the
business of racing must ensure its IT needs are always met, and
we're pleased to offer Churchill Downs Incorporated high-value,
high-quality technology coupled with exceptional customer support,"
said Bruce Smith, senior vice president of Gateway's Professional
business unit. "As the exclusive provider of enterprise technology
to CDI, Gateway will enhance the race patrons' experience while
supporting the organization's overall technology goals." Gateway
has supplied CDI with a full suite of products to meet the demands
of the organization, including Gateway(R) 975 and 995 rack-mount
servers offering optimal storage and networking capabilities,
Gateway(R) M275 tablet PCs, Gateway(R) M460 and M680 notebooks and
Gateway(R) E-Series desktops. Gateway's high-touch customer
service, combined with the ability of the Gateway servers to
support CDI's complex CRM applications, were primary drivers in
CDI's decision to select Gateway as its vendor of choice. From
value-priced servers to ultra-reliable desktops to comprehensive
services, Gateway has served organizations for more than 20 years.
Gateway uses its multi-channel approach to make the purchase, use
and support of technology simple. Gateway customers include many of
