CGI said Thursday it partnered with Helsinki University Hospital and digital-imaging devices maker Planmeca to develop an artificial intelligence solution to help radiologists interpret brain CT scans and detect the most common types of non-traumatic brain hemorrhages.

The collaboration, called CleverHealth Network, is part of CGI's environmental, social and corporate governance strategy, the technology company said.

CGI said the AI solution was recently approved to be retrospectively tested in workflow in Helsinki University Hospital, so that a radiologist and artificial intelligence first analyze the images independently and after the radiologist has made a diagnosis it can be compared with the results of the AI.

The solution's AI algorithms were jointly developed by CGI, Helsinki University Hospital and Planmeca. The hospital has been developing AI algorithms for many years and now has a digital archive containing more than 20 million images. CGI said it built the solution's underlying platform on Microsoft Azure.
