With the 2009 hurricane season underway, more government
agencies are turning to Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (NYSE:
ACS) for services to help prepare for and respond to a disaster by
reducing its impact, maintaining essential services and caring for
citizens.
ACS solutions are tailored and scalable to help governments
quickly assist citizens. Our work, proven through the countrys
most demanding recent disasters, includes:
- For a second hurricane season,
ACS is a partner to the United States Department ofHealth and
Human Services by providing critical support and cost-saving
innovation for the Emergency Prescription Assistance Program
(EPAP). During a declared disaster, EPAP enables pharmacies to fill
prescriptions and provide qualifying medical equipment at
negotiated market rates for those without health insurance living
in, or evacuated from, disaster areas. During the 2008 hurricane
season, the program filled more than 30,000 prescriptions for
affected residents.
- ACS is aiding state governments
in disaster recovery by providing grant management services for
residents rebuilding from hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In
Louisiana, ACS was recently awarded a contract to administer
eligibility and grant determination as well as oversee construction
for the Small Rental Property Program, which provides federal
funding for property owners to repair their storm-damaged rental
properties. In Texas, ACS is administering a first-of-its-kind
hurricane recovery program for the Texas Department of Housing and
Community Affairs in which the state takes on the full
responsibilities of home rebuilding and repair from outreach and
eligibility determination to certificate of occupancy on the newly
constructed or repaired home.
- ACS will provide critical
services in Louisiana, where the state Department of Social
Services (DSS) has awarded ACS a contract, extending through
hurricane season, to support the Disaster Food Stamp program by
establishing a customer service center to respond to questions from
citizens. ACS has a history of helping DSS in the wake of a
disaster. After Hurricane Katrina, ACS worked with the DSS to help
ensure that parents received timely child support payments.
ACS disaster relief portfolio for governments also
includes:
- disaster readiness
assessment;
- evacuation, citizen tracking,
and citizen transportation planning and implementation;
- shelter planning and
management;
- electronic payment cards for
benefits such as food stamps, child support, payroll or emergency
aid;
- always-on infrastructure and
IT support;
- outbound messaging
services;
- single point of entry for
program eligibility.
ACS is well-positioned to help in times of emergency because

the largest IT service providers to the nations public sector, ACS

agencies on the federal, state, county and local level.
