McGraw-Hill and CNET Announce Alliance to Produce Book Series
July 11 2006 - 10:00AM
PR Newswire (US)
NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCO, July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill
Professional and CNET (http://www.cnet.com/), a property of CNET
Networks, Inc.
(NASDAQ:CNETNASDAQ:-NASDAQ:http://www.cnetnetworks.com), today
announced an alliance to jointly publish a new series of books
aimed at the home technology market. The series will show readers
how to get more fun and functionality out of their favorite gadgets
and software, as well as provide consumers with creative ideas on
how to incorporate technology into their homes, home offices, and
cars so they can get the most out of the products that they already
own. The books are a collaborative effort between McGraw-Hill
authors, who are experts in their fields, and CNET's award-winning
editorial team that has produced thousands of lab-based reviews of
tech products and services. The new series is aimed at readers who
enjoy and appreciate the way technology can enhance their daily
lives, but who don't necessarily consider themselves to be
completely tech savvy. For each book, CNET will also host online
tutorials and how-to videos that will help enhance the learning
experience for select projects. The online destination for each
book will include sample text, downloads, and an author forum. CNET
will also host special live-events in which the McGraw-Hill authors
and CNET editors will provide training and advice to consumers.
Typical projects will include converting vinyl albums and home
videos to video iPod format; turning a laptop PC into a mobile GPS
system; and using a Mac mini as a home media center. Other topics
that will be covered in the series include home theater, home
networking, podcasting and videocasting, home office setup, home
automation, and car audio. The first four books in the 14-book
series are scheduled to be released at the 2007 International
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas January 8-11, and will hit
bookshelves later that month at major retailers nationwide. "These
two leading brands together represent a winning combination for
consumers who are interested in easy to use, do-it-yourself home
building advice," says Keith Fox, president of McGraw-Hill
Professional. "Our publishing program is the perfect complement to
CNET's online offerings. Whether in print or on the Web, we are
proud to offer timely and seamless solutions that meet the needs of
our and CNET's customers." "The alliance with McGraw-Hill to
produce this book series is a perfect complement to CNET's mission
of helping consumers find the right product and get the most out of
it," says Joe Gillespie, executive vice president of CNET. "The
online content created to accompany each book will take advantage
of CNET's expertise in creating video and how-to features that help
demystify technology." About McGraw-Hill Professional: McGraw-Hill
