Empire Resorts, Inc. (NASDAQ-GM:NYNY) and its wholly owned
subsidiaries (together “Empire” or the “Company”), are
participating in Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW).
“While the Company is pleased to highlight its efforts during
RGEW, Empire and its subsidiaries know that responsible gaming is
much more than a week-long event – it is a corporate commitment by
management and our team members,” said Nanette Horner, Empire’s
Chief Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Chair of the Company’s
Responsible Gaming Committee.
Empire promotes responsible gaming every day by providing
educational materials that encourage guests to treat gambling the
same way they treat other forms of entertainment. These materials
encourage guests to budget the time and amount of money they want
to spend and to consider their chosen recreation as a pleasant
pastime.
Empire trains employees to report to supervisors any guest
statements and/or behaviors that may cause concern. The Company’s
Responsible Gaming Committee reviews such reports and concerns and
it determines the next steps regarding the guest. The Company
displays New York’s toll-free hopeline number in its advertising,
brochures and signage, which is 877-8-HOPENY. Empire offers
information about the importance of playing responsibly and how to
recognize potential signs of a gambling problem. Additionally, the
Company has procedures in place to prevent underage gambling and to
address unattended minors.
During RGEW, Empire will deliver additional responsible gaming
materials and information to employees to reinforce their knowledge
of the Company’s responsible gaming policies and resources.
Employees also will be asked to consider how they can share their
knowledge to help guests, employees and the public understand the
importance of gambling responsibly.
Ms. Horner concluded, “Promotion of responsible gaming is an
integral part of the Company’s training and corporate culture. As a
responsible member of the gaming industry, we want our guests to
enjoy the entertainment value offered by us. As set forth in our
Responsible Gaming Committee’s Mission Statement, we recognize that
some individuals may not play responsibly and we understand that
there are social costs associated with compulsive, problem,
underage and intoxicated gambling and unattended minors. We support
the development of education, awareness and prevention programs to
address these concerns.”
