PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Affymax, Inc. a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company, today announced the appointment of Daniel K. Spiegelman to the Company's board of directors. Mr. Spiegelman is currently senior vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) of CV Therapeutics (NASDAQ:CVTX), a position he has held since 1999. "Dan Spiegelman has an extensive background in the financial and commercial issues facing growing biotechnology companies, and he is an important addition to Affymax's board. He has helped CV Therapeutics raise more than $1 billion in financing and has overseen its transition from an R&D-focused company into a commercial entity with two approved products and approximately 700 employees," said Arlene M. Morris, president and chief executive officer of Affymax. "His experience will be valuable to Affymax as we advance our lead product candidate Hematide(TM) through clinical development and, if successful, into commercialization for the treatment of anemia in patients with chronic kidney disease and cancer." Mr. Spiegelman joined CV Therapeutics in January 1998 as vice president and CFO.
