Apple Inc. encouraged its employees across Silicon Valley to work from home if possible on Friday, a precautionary measure amid a steady uptick in coronavirus cases across the Bay Area.

The tech giant's Cupertino, Calif. headquarters is in Santa Clara County where 20 people have tested positive for Covid-19. The county issued guidance yesterday encouraging businesses to have staff work from home, as well as asking companies to suspend nonessential employee travel.

Apple has an estimated 25,000 employees across Silicon Valley. The company earlier this week restricted employee travel to Italy and South Korea. It had previously restricted travel to China, where the outbreak began.
