A delegation from U.S. energy giant Chevron met with top government officials from the Republic of Congo on Thursday to discuss extending investments in the country's oil-and-gas industry.

Led by Chevron's Director General for Central and Southern Africa Billy Lacobie, the delegation held discussions with the country's Minister of Hydrocarbons Bruno Jean Richard Itoua on future projects in the field of energy transition and gas production, according to a statement issued by the Congolese government late Thursday.

Chevron has been present in the Republic of Congo for several years and intends to launch new hydrocarbon explorations and develop opportunities in the field of gas, the government said. It is currently developing the Lianzi oil and gas field that straddles the maritime borders of Angola, it said.

After meeting with Mr. Itoua, the Chevron delegation was received by Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso. Details of their discussions weren't disclosed.
