Charter Communications Inc.'s profit rose amid higher revenue in the second quarter.

The company's profit attributable to shareholders was $1.02 billion, up from $766 million a year ago. Earnings were $5.29 a share, up from $3.63 a share a year earlier. Earnings were higher than the consensus estimate from FactSet.

Revenue rose 9.5% to $12.8 billion. Analysts were expecting $12.62 billion.

Charter's residential customers grew by 299,000 in the three months ended June 30, down from the 751,000 added in the second quarter of 2020, when Covid-19 lockdowns forced many employees to work from home. The residential-customer growth was up from 164,000 additions in the second quarter of 2019.
