Banco Popular Presents 'Ocho Puertas,' a Musical Production to Be
Aired by WWTW Ch. 11 on December 7, at 5:30 PM CHICAGO, Dec. 5
/PRNewswire/ -- Banco Popular is proud to present a special
two-hour musical program entitled "Ocho Puertas" (Eight Doors),
this Sunday, December 7, beginning at 5:30 p.m. This is the
eleventh straight year that WTTW Ch. 11 will broadcast the show, an
anxiously awaited tradition in its own right. Banco Popular
reaffirms its commitment to the Puerto Rican and Hispanic community
in general by airing the best of Puerto Rican and international
music. Production of this well-known program, which began July
17th, was both a gathering of talent and a voyage to that renowned
"Ocho Puertas" (Eight Doors) that witnessed the birth of new
rhythms and voices. Dedicated to Puerto Rican music, the program
tells the story of a magical place, the birthplace of great voices
that can provide a chorus for the symbolic Puerto Rican tree frog,
the "Coqui." "We are very pleased with the recordings and can
attest to the chemistry among the performers based on their
memories of and anecdotes about their experiences at Ocho Puertas
(Eight Doors). The special is an unquestionable tribute to the
place that offered these performers, now popular celebrities, their
first chance. Banco Popular is a firm believer in supporting the
arts as an extension of the feelings of a people," said Frances
Ryan, Vice President of Communications and Leadership at Banco
Popular. "Founded in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in the 1960s, "Ocho
Puertas" (Eight Doors) fast became the preferred place for aspiring
artists who performed melodies that became the substance of a
unforgettable era that remains alive thanks to the memories of both
the Puerto Rican people and the world at large. This special
program includes performances by such artists as Andy Montanez,
Lisette Alvarez, Chucho Avellanet, Lucecita Benitez and Danny
Rivera, who thrilled the audience when they performed on stage
accompanied by piano. The production also includes Nydia Caro,
Michael Stuart and Luis Fonsi -- all inspired by the nostalgia of
those earlier days. With this special presentation, Banco Popular
celebrates 110 years of tradition and honesty serving those who
need "their first chance." Banco Popular will donate all proceeds
from the sale of the "Ocho Puertas" CDs and DVDs, available for
purchase at Bank branches throughout the country. Don't miss "Ocho
Puertas," produced in its totality by your friendly financial
institution, Banco Popular, and airing this Sunday, December 7, at
5:30 p.m., on WTTW Ch. 11, the channel that works tirelessly for
