Community organizations and municipalities are urged to spread the
word NEWARK, N.J., April 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- April 30 is
the deadline to apply for LIHEAP, a federally funded program that
helps income-eligible customers offset the cost of heating bills.
PSE&G is urging residents who may have recently lost their jobs
or had their work hours reduced to see if they now qualify for the
program. "Low-income families and those on fixed incomes need to
know there is assistance available to help them pay their bills,"
said Joe Forline, Vice President Customer Operations. "LIHEAP
provides an average benefit of $465, which can be very helpful to
families in today's economy. We want to see as many people as
possible take advantage of this important benefit." PSE&G is
sending letters to 100,000 customers who may be eligible to
participate in LIHEAP to encourage them to apply before the end of
April. The utility also is asking municipal officials, community
leaders and service organizations to help spread the word to
residents. Applications for LIHEAP are available at community-based
organizations in each county and at all 16 PSE&G Customer
Service Centers (CSCs). Representatives of social services agencies
are on site (schedules vary per location) at CSCs in Jersey City,
Passaic, Paterson, Hackensack, Newark, West Orange, and New
Brunswick to help customers fill out applications. Service center
hours and locations are listed on customer bills. Information and
applications also are available online at
