Owens Corning (NYSE: OC), manufacturers of PINK™ FIBERGLAS®
insulation and other energy-saving products, has joined with Sloot
Construction Ltd., located in Guelph, ON, to help build the home
for this year's "Rotary Club of Guelph Dream Home Lottery". The
dream home is not only built with the expert knowledge of the Sloot
Construction team and beautifully furnished with state-of-the-art
appliances and furniture but the entire home has been outfitted
with Owens Corning's insulation products and sets a new standard of
energy efficiency in Canada.
On Wednesday, March 30th 2011, Owens Corning, in association
with Sloot Construction Ltd. held the final Blower Door Test on the
completed home to test the home's level of air tightness. The home
surpassed the energy efficiency of homes that meet the R-2000
energy rating, the pinnacle of energy efficiency in Canada and
tested at 0.61 air changes per hour. This is one of the only homes
in Canada that has been tested and met such a high standard of
air-tightness - meaning increased energy efficiency to help cut
down on energy bills.
The home also underwent a Blower Door Test at the framing stage
in December 2010 to test the air tightness of the home, surpassing
the standard of Energy Star® homes at the delivery, or completed,
stage of the building process. This is in part due to Owens
Corning's PINK™ Thermal Wall - FOAMULAR® CodeBoard™ Air Barrier
system which maximizes the energy efficiency of the home and helps
cut down on energy bills.
"We could not be more thrilled to collaborate with Sloot
Construction for this project and help the Rotary Club with their
annual fundraising initiative," says Andy Goyda, Market Development
Manager, Building Materials Group at Owens Corning. "The expert
knowledge of the Sloot team in combination with the energy
efficient qualities of our products mean this home will help the
winner of the contest save on energy bills the moment they move
in."
"Owens Corning was our first choice when selecting an insulation
company for this project," says John Sloot, president of Sloot
Construction Ltd. "We trust the quality and value of insulation
products from Owens Corning for our construction projects and the
results of the Blower Door Test prove that Owens Corning delivers
reliable products for creating energy efficient homes."
The Rotary Club Dream Home, valued at $682,000 will conduct the
Official Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on April 9th,
the same day that the club will begin selling tickets for the home
until the contest closes on July 1st, 2011. The 2011 Rotary Dream
Home Lottery is raising funds for the Guelph General Hospital
Medical Education Centre to provide leading-edge training for
medical students and eventually encourage them to return as
permanent physicians.
