Rigorous Indoor Air Quality Certifications Are First in Glass Fiber
Non-Woven Industry TOLEDO, Ohio, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Owens Corning (NYSE:OC), a leading global producer of glass fiber
reinforcements for composite systems and residential and commercial
building materials, today announced that its glass fiber veils for
carpet, ceilings and flooring are the first in the glass non-woven
industry to be GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified®. The
products were also certified for the more stringent GREENGUARD
Children & Schools(SM) product emissions standard. The
qualifications for Owens Corning non-woven glass fiber veil used in
carpeting, cushion vinyl flooring and ceilings showcase the
company's continued commitment to sustainable industry leadership
and stand alongside GREENGUARD Certifications of a wide variety of
Owens Corning products including fiberglass insulation, extruded
polystyrene foam insulation and manufactured stone veneer. "As part
of our overall sustainability strategy, we are taking the lead on
indoor air quality assurance because this aspect of product
stewardship is very important to our customers, their customers and
our company," said Owens Corning Chief Sustainability Officer Frank
O'Brien Bernini. "It is important to have the environmental
performance of our products certified by a third-party program
based on trusted emission standards that are recognized by the
leading green building standards around the world." "This
certification is more important than ever, given the rapid growth
of the glass fiber non-wovens in the U.S. and around the world in
interior applications such as flooring, wall coverings and
ceilings," said Steven Vermeulen, vice president and managing
director of OCV(TM) Non-Woven Technologies. "This third-party
certification gives our customers the assurance that our glass
fiber non-wovens can be used to make sustainable products." Glass
fiber-based veils and specialty non-wovens are used in multiple
applications in industrial applications including batteries, wind
turbine blades and pavement reinforcement. In building materials,
one of the first market applications was in the cushion vinyl
flooring market in Europe as companies there replaced traditional
cellulose felt with glass fiber non-wovens to improve dimensional
stability. Glass fiber non-wovens are also used in commercial
ceiling panels that provide enhanced aesthetics as well as improved
acoustic performance. For mold and mildew resistance, glass-based
non-wovens are used in gypsum products. GREENGUARD Indoor Air
Quality Certified® is a product certification program for
low-emitting interior building materials, furnishings and finish
systems. GREENGUARD Children & Schools is a product
certification program for low emitting interior building materials,
furnishings and finish systems used in educational (daycare and
K12) environments. All GREENGUARD Certified products have been
tested for their chemical emissions performance and can be found in
the GREENGUARD Product Guide(SM) at http://www.greenguard.org/. For
