Award Demonstrates Company's Breadth of Green Practices TOLEDO,
Ohio, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Owens Corning, a world
leader in building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, today
announced that a building at the company's science and technology
(S&T) center in Granville, Ohio, has met the Green Seal
environmental standard for cleaning services. This is only the
second building in the state of Ohio to achieve the Green Seal
certification. Green Seal is an independent, non-profit group that
safeguards the environment and promotes environmentally friendly
products and services. The Granville facilities team encouraged its
cleaning service, ServiceMaster Facility Services by George, to
meet the Green Seal standard, and worked closely with them to
ensure the certification was met. As a result, all chemicals used
to clean the building are environmentally friendly, and are
automatically mixed in proper proportions to avoid using excess
chemicals. In addition, chemicals are stored away from the main
work space and all cleaning products are certified as sustainable.
ServiceMaster also added floor and scraping mats near the doors to
prevent dirt and dust from entering the building. "This achievement
proves we're doing things right to provide a cleaner atmosphere for
people in the building and for the Granville community at large,"
said Vince Brown, Granville site operations leader. Currently,
other buildings on the Granville S&T site use similar green
cleaning practices. Owens Corning's goal is to have each S&T
building meet the Green Seal standard by the end of this year.
Green Seal evaluates products and services through a full range of
phases, beginning with material extraction, continuing with
manufacturing and use and ending with recycling and disposal.
Products only become Green Seal certified after rigorous testing
and evaluation, including on-site plant visits. About Owens
