Kohl's Looks To Lift Sales By Adding Digital Kiosks At Airport
June 08 2011 - 11:13AM
Dow Jones News
Kohl's Corp. (KSS) has approached Milwaukee's airport about
installing digital kiosks so that travelers can order merchandise
online from the retailer.
The novel plan would place in an external site the
do-it-yourself systems that Kohl's has in its stores and could lead
to further growth of the approach if successful.
In a hearing planned for Wednesday, Kohl's is expected to seek
approval to place three kiosks at the airport, which is based in
the retailer's home state of Wisconsin.
A Kohl's spokeswoman declined to comment on the proposal. The
measure is contained in a resolution being considered by the
county's transportation committee.
Under the agreement, Kohl's would pay the General Mitchell
International Airport 11% of gross revenue before sales tax. Kohl's
is seeking a one-year contract with five one-year options and the
right to end the agreement at any time with 60 days notice.
The retailer would install and operate the kiosks, which would
offer merchandise from its stores and online site.
Kohl's shares are off 0.9% to $50.50.
