- Harris legacy with DoD and VA uniquely positioned company for
win
Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications
and information technology company, has been awarded a one-year
contract by Base Technologies, Inc., to support the development of
the Defense and Veterans Eye Injury and Vision Registry (DVEIVR)
for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The registry will
track the occurrence, treatment, and outcomes of all eye injuries
or visual dysfunction experienced by members of the Armed Forces
while serving on active duty.
DVEIVR seamlessly aggregates data from several military service
member and veteran health systems to create an integrated view of
injury-specific statistics and treatments. With access to
this consolidated registry, clinicians can better diagnose and
treat individual patients using proven techniques, and also
maintain more accurate and up-to-date patient-specific information.
As the first major patient registry to be shared by the DoD
and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the DVEIVR enables
comprehensive and coordinated vision care from prevention and
diagnosis through treatment and rehabilitation. The registry
will allow both agencies to focus research more effectively,
analyze long-term outcomes, assess intervention strategies, and
establish guidelines for optimal care.
"This collaboration between the DoD and the VA is an important
milestone in improving the treatment of our wounded warriors," said
Jim Traficant, vice president and
general manager, Harris Healthcare Solutions. "Harris is
helping the DoD to develop this registry as a support tool for
research, treatment, and development of clinical best
practices."
The DVEIVR program will support the requirements of the National
Defense and Authorization Act of 2008, which established a Vision
Center of Excellence (VCE) dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis,
mitigation, treatment, and rehabilitation of military eye
injuries.
