ConAgra Foods, Inc., (NYSE: CAG) one of North America’s leading
food makers, today announced another new innovation in the freezer
case with the launch of Alexia Select Sides, a line of all-natural,
easy-to-prepare roasted potato and vegetable side dishes for
skillet preparation. Select Sides, which go from freezer to plate
in 10 to 12 minutes, contain all the ingredients needed to prepare
a nutritious, multiple serving side dish, including premium roasted
red-skin or sweet potatoes, vegetables such as baby portabella
mushrooms and whole green beans and a unique herb-infused cooking
oil packet.
“Our consumer research showed that people crave more variety,
yet often treat side dishes as an afterthought,” said Michael
Smith, brand director, ConAgra Foods. “With Alexia Select Sides,
we’re able to deliver premium, all-natural side dishes packed with
the flavor of our herb-infused cooking oil and easily prepared in a
skillet. Sautéing the vegetable blend creates a tempting aroma and
gives the dish more flavor when compared with other frozen
vegetables.”
Sold at grocery and natural food stores nationwide for a
suggested retail price of $3.69, Alexia Select Sides are available
in four varieties, including: Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby
Portabella Mushrooms; Roasted Red Potatoes & Italian Inspired
Vegetables; Roasted Red Potatoes & Harvest Vegetables; and
Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potatoes. Each Alexia Select Sides package
has three servings and includes a separate pouch containing a blend
of premium oils, herbs and spices, such as thyme and sage, to
complement the flavors of the other ingredients. Select Sides are
cholesterol-free and contain no trans fat per serving.
Alexia is the No. 1 natural frozen potato brand1 with a product
portfolio that also includes all-natural appetizers and artisan
breads. The frozen potato and onion side dish category accounts for
$1.2 billion in annual sales2. As measured by IRI, category sales
are up 2.3 percent in the past 12 weeks3 while dollar sales for
Alexia have increased 14.8 percent4.
ConAgra Foods is a recognized leader in the frozen foods
category and sells more than 3 million packages of frozen food
products each day. The launch of Alexia Select Sides follows other
ConAgra Foods frozen food innovations this year, including the
launch of Healthy Choice® Mediterranean Inspired Café
Steamers which are freshly cooked in a patented DuoTray Steam
Cooker. This same proprietary steaming technology is also used for
Marie Callender’s® Pasta Al Dente, a line of authentic
Italian pasta meals cooked in the microwave to the perfect al dente
texture.
Alexia Foods was founded in 2002 and acquired by ConAgra Foods
in 2007. Alexia products are available at natural, gourmet, club,
grocery and mass retail stores.
