Plexxus, a shared-service organization supporting 11 Greater
Toronto Area (GTA) member hospitals, and CGI Group Inc.
(TSX:GIB.A)(NYSE:GIB), announced today the launch of an Enterprise
Resource Planning solution that is breaking ground in Canadian
healthcare. CGI has supported Plexxus in the design, build,
implementation and management of the solution which uses SAP
software. The scope of the initial implementation includes finance
and supply chain management, key components in an integrated back
office.
Plexxus, in collaboration with its member hospitals and
supported by CGI, developed and will operate the Integrated
Technology Solution (ITS). The common platform will enable Plexxus
and the hospitals to more effectively manage and share information,
and replace aging legacy financial and procurement systems in the
hospitals. ITS will allow Plexxus to leverage a common vendor and
item database in order to continue to create operational
efficiencies and generate savings through group purchasing.
"This initiative was a major business transformation and
demonstrates the benefits of collaboration in the health care
system," said David Yundt, President and CEO, Plexxus. "By
providing the solution through a shared services model, a world
class system is affordable for all of our member hospitals. We look
forward to the potential for other hospitals in Ontario to take
advantage of this platform in the future".
University Health Network, the first Plexxus member hospital to
start using this innovative solution, implemented ITS in late
November. The remaining hospitals will implement the solution in
phases carrying into late 2012.
"This newly launched platform is major shift from how hospitals
have managed and leveraged their financial and supply chain
systems, and it represents a new way of thinking that facilitates
hospitals working together to create savings that can be
re-invested into patient care," said Doug McCuaig, President,
Canada, CGI. "Plexxus and its members are at the forefront of this
shift and CGI is proud to continue to support our client and ITS
going forward."
