On October 14, Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISSC) announced the Company has teamed with ABX Air, Inc. to upgrade and retrofit B-767 cockpits with their Flat Panel Display Systems for both Primary Flight Control and Navigation Control information. As part of that arrangement, ABX Air placed a $1.6 million order with the Company in September to retrofit selected airplanes. The first B-767 has already been upgraded with Primary Flight and Navigation Display Systems and after successful ground and flight testing, has received Federal Aviation. Administration (FAA) TSO approval and STC certification. Innovative Solutions & Support's President, Roman Ptakowski, today said the ABX Air/IS&S approach provides B767-200/300 operators with a single point of contact for a low cost, rapidly implemented retrofit. The turnkey installation can be performed at ABX Air facilities with minimum downtime. Pilot training can take place at the same time as the aircraft undergoes the retrofit. The IS&S Flat Panel Display System or Cockpit Information Portal (Cockpit/IP(TM)) consists of a pilot and copilot suite of high resolution multi-color LCD flat panel displays. Operators will benefit from improved dispatch reliability, logistics savings, minimal retraining, weight and heat reduction, and adaptability to future requirements. The ABX Air developed turnkey service provides installation kits and labor, pilot training, and technical manual updates. The Cockpit/IP for the B-767 is an example of the Company's approach to easily installed cockpit upgrades for a variety of aircraft. It reduces the number of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) from 16 to 3 and saves over 200 pounds. Reduced power consumption not only saves on operation costs but also improves system reliability. Familiar, flexible formats reduce conversion training. Changing requirements are accommodated by flexible graphic display formats that are readily certifiable by the FAA.
