Fairchild Semiconductor's (NYSE: FCS) 1.5A synchronous DC-DC buck regulators, the FAN2011 and FAN2012, have won a prestigious product award in China. Named a winner in Electronic Product China's Top 10 DC-DC 2005 awards, these "all-in-one" buck converters offer the industry's best combination of efficiency, performance, power density and size for set top boxes, hard disk drives, point-of-load (POL) power and communications equipment. In these applications, LDOs have typically been used. With space-sensitive applications, DC-DC regulators are increasingly being used in this application space. The awards are designed to encourage the application of power supply technologies in China. All DC-DC power supply components released in China within the specified period were eligible for entry. The magazine's editorial team undertook the first round of judging, checking technical and material specifications before inviting readers of the publication to vote on their preferred product. Fairchild received the award at a special ceremony hosted during the 2005 Power Module Technology Conference in Beijing. The FAN2011 and FAN2012 regulators offer 95% high efficiency allowing for greater power density. They feature a 1.5A continuous load current that has the current output to replace typical linear regulators and 1.3MHz high operating frequency, enabling smaller overall design by providing smaller passive devices. They are packaged in 3 X 3 mm MLP packages offering excellent thermal conductivity. Both the award-winning FAN2011 and FAN2012 have an adjustable output voltage (from 0.8V to VIN) allowing designers the flexibility to address a wide range of DC-DC applications and a high fixed operating frequency (1.3MHZ). The combined benefits of high operating frequency and ultra-compact packaging result in more space-efficient, cost-effective designs. Ideal for low-power applications, the FAN2011 is always "on," while the FAN2012 has an enable pin that offers designers the ability to implement power management schemes for power conservation. "Winning this prestigious award is an important milestone for Fairchild," said Eric Kuo, Fairchild's president and managing director, Sales Asia Pacific. "As the company celebrates the 8th anniversary of the re-establishment of its independent identity, this is a validation of our drive to develop products that will assist China in meeting its energy efficiency targets. "Fairchild Semiconductor, The Power Franchise(R), places heavy emphasis on products that optimize system power. We are continuing our transition to higher value power discrete and analog solutions that are making an impact on China's power consumption. Further, Fairchild is playing a key role supporting China's energy-efficiency regulations with its design and development of new semiconductors helping to minimize demand on the power grid and conserve power with effective battery management," said Kuo.
