Dow Jones Indexes said a "technical issue" affected the calculation of its flagship index at the start of trading Monday.

The glitch lasted 12 minutes and has since been rectified, said Rich Silverman, a spokesman for Dow Jones Indexes. It wasn't immediately known whether any trades were affected by the glitch.

The technical issue "caused a delay in the updating of certain component data used in the calculation of the Dow Jones Industrial Average," Silverman said.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is part of Dow Jones Indexes, which is 90% owned by CME Group Inc. (CME). News Corp. (NWS, NWSA), which also publishes this newswire, holds the remaining 10%.

U.S. stocks opened higher, driven by hopes for Europe's debt crisis to be contained. The Dow was recently up 99 points, or 0.9%, to 10870. The action follows the index's biggest weekly point drop since October 2008.
