Today Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), a leader in secure document management services, announced a new strategic alliance with ScanMD. ScanMD powered by Cintas enables medical offices to transition patient paper charts and files to electronic medical records (EMRs). The alliance will expand the range of Cintas’ secure document management solutions, enabling healthcare information professionals to more easily and efficiently transition their paper files to a secure and compliant EMR program.

The specialized solution is designed to save time, space and money, while providing the convenience of digital filing. Cintas will speak more about the alliance, along with additional document management best practices for healthcare records at booth #3510 during the Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exposition, Feb. 20-24, in Las Vegas.

“Healthcare information professionals spend thousands of dollars on technology, labor and legal oversight when transitioning their records to an EMR program,” said Bob Hoffman, Director of Imaging Sales at Cintas. “Aligning with ScanMD allows Cintas to provide an intuitive, yet robust solution that keeps EMRs secure and healthcare providers compliant, removing much of the labor, cost and frustration typically associated with the process.”

With the new solution, Cintas certified professionals guarantee the security of medical records from pickup, through the scanning and conversion process, to the shredding of old charts and the backup storage of electronic charts. After medical records have been converted using the ScanMD solution powered by Cintas, healthcare professionals can navigate the system with a variety of searchable data fields, which provide instantaneous access to patient records. In addition, a color-coded system with tabbed-based PDF files simplifies the organization and navigation of EMRs. The easy search feature reduces the time required to locate files and minimizes the likelihood of duplication, increasing overall efficiency and patient care. It also enables healthcare providers to free up valuable office space. Rooms that were previously devoted to storing paper charts can now be used for patient care.

ScanMD powered by Cintas safeguards EMRs and sensitive patient health information in compliance with regulations set by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). In addition, it reduces the risk of potential HIPAA issues by diminishing lost or inaccessible files.

“Future legislation and federal mandates are urging healthcare providers to utilize EMRs. Taking early action with ScanMD powered by Cintas allows physician offices to efficiently transition to EMRs to stay ahead of upcoming regulations,” said Jay Morton, CEO, ScanMD. “The alliance with Cintas enables us to expand the scope of our solution, and offer a comprehensive document management solution that enables healthcare providers to securely image, store and shred their patient records.

Cintas offers personalized document management consultation, as well as secure document imaging, storage and shredding programs. Its services are designed to provide businesses with data privacy and security, compliance with regulatory requirements and more efficient control and access to information. Cintas is the first North American AAA NAID-certified and PCI DSS compliant document management provider.
