ROSELAND, N.J., Dec. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ADP®, a leading provider of human resource outsourcing, payroll services, tax and compliance services, benefits administration and integrated computing solutions for vehicle dealers, today announced two initiatives to support the communities in which its clients and ADP associates live and work.

In the first of the two community initiatives, ADP will continue its tradition of donating $500,000 on behalf of its associates to two charities that work to alleviate hunger, Feeding America and OxFam International.  Each charity will be awarded $250,000.

Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity, with food bank members that supply food to more than 37 million Americans each year, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors.  The organization bridges the gap between 202 local member food banks at the front lines of hunger relief across the country, and the central efforts of its national office.

Oxfam International is an international federation of 15 organizations working together in 98 countries.  The organization works directly with partners and allies around the world to find lasting solutions that assist with poverty and injustice by raising public awareness and education.  Its goal is to ensure that all people can improve their lives by lifting those in need out of poverty.

In a second effort, ADP will undertake its second annual "Caring for Our Communities" program. Part of ADP's Workplace Giving Campaign, this program offers company associates the opportunity to nominate their favorite charity for a chance to receive a $2,000 grant from the ADP Foundation.

More than 65 ADP associates provided personal stories explaining why their favorite charity should be chosen to receive the funding.  These stories demonstrate the passion and commitment of ADP associates, while reinforcing the importance of community involvement.

The five winning charities from the 2011 "Caring for Our Communities" program with their ADP associate nominators are:

Canine Companions for Independence

Founded in 1975, Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. The result is a life full of increased independence and loving companionship.  Nominated by Kelly Bussio, Salt Lake City.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI works to improve the lives of people with mental illness. Mental illnesses are biological brain disorders and are treatable medical conditions. Through education, support and advocacy, NAMI works to end the stigma and misunderstanding that comes with a mental illness diagnosis. Nominated by Tracy Gramse, Minneapolis.

Child & Family Resource Diaper Bank

This private, non-profit organization creates and delivers programs and services that support the development of children and strengthen families. The development of the Diaper Bank engages everyone in the community to ensure that our most vulnerable citizens receive a healthy daily change of diapers. Nominated by Alex Halem, Roseland, N.J.

Scarf It Up

Founded 10 years ago, Scarf it Up is an outreach program that provides handmade scarves along with hats, gloves and mittens to those in need. They work tirelessly to ensure no one is cold at homeless shelters, resource centers and local churches. Nominated by Linda Ramler, Florence, Ky.

Swim Across America (SAA)

This organization is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events.  With the help of hundreds of volunteers nationwide and past and current Olympians, SAA is helping find a cure for cancer through athleticism, community outreach and direct service. Nominated by Trevor Stanco, New York City.

In recognition of its workplace efforts, ADP was recognized by DiversityInc magazine at a recent event in Washington, D.C.  ADP won the award for "Top Company for Working Families."
